"You can go a long way on a smile. You can go a lot farther on a smile and a gun."

My head hurts. Not just a headache, but a HEADACHE. And it's yucky outside. But I suppose we need the rain. We always need the rain. It's absolutely pouring outside. The only time I love for it to be storming is when I'm at home. There's nothing quite like a good thunderstorm. It hit me today. Come Thursday, there are exactly three weeks until the end of school. For like, ever. Weird. I've got to get to work on some lingering projects.

Today has got to be the longest day on record. Well, maybe not. It just feels like it. But speaking of the longest day on record, does anyone actually know the story of Joshua's Long Day? Okay kids, take out your Bibles and turn with me to Joshua 10. So the Amorite kings decided to attack Joshua and the Israelites. God told Joshua,
"Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands. Not a man of them shall stand before you (vs. 8)."
Joshua took the people and began a march toward the enemy, who when they saw Joshua's army, fled in terror. As they fled, however, God struck them with stones from the sky and killed them. Joshua and his army needed more time to finish the rest of them off, but the sun was setting. So Joshua prayed to God that he would extend the day. Guess what--He did. That's right people.
"The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day. There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord obeyed the voice of a man, for the Lord fought for Israel (vs. 13-14)."
How cool is that?? Now read this excerpt from an article by Russel Grigg:
"It should also be noted that the Amorites were sun and moon worshippers. For these ‘deities’ to have been forced to obey the God of Israel must have been a devasting experience for the Amorites, and this might well have been the reason why God performed this particular miracle at that time..."
God is awesome people. He can tell the sun and moon when and where to go, and how to do it. Shouldn't we trust that He can and will take care of us?

    Yes, we should trust Him!

Ah, but it's always easier to trust in what God has already done for someone else than look at our own realities and expect him to act just as wonderfully.

God keeps working, but always the problems just in front of us seem to be the ones he won't overcome. Of course, this is why we need to keep hearing the old stories... so that we can have faith while the new ones are written.

Thanks for the reminder. May God bless your journey in wonderful ways.
